Expenses & Splitting

Work in progress

This page is a stub. Screenshots and step-by-step walkthroughs are coming.

Expenses are the heart of HomeLog. Each expense records what was spent, who paid, and β€” optionally β€” how it's shared with the rest of the household.

Recording an expense

From the Expenses tab, add an expense with an amount, date, category, and the member who paid. Categories and subcategories are configurable in Settings β†’ Categories.

Splitting

When an expense is shared, HomeLog creates a split for each participating member. The split records how much each person owes. The payer never owes themselves, so their own share is marked as settled automatically.

Household-wide defaults (split equally, by share, or not at all) can be set once, and individual expenses can override them.

Balances & settling up

The Balance tab shows who owes whom across all unsettled splits. Recording a settlement marks the relevant splits as paid, keeping the running balance accurate.

Templates

Frequent expenses (weekly groceries, rent…) can be saved as templates so you can add them in one tap. Manage them in Settings β†’ Preferences.
